 Coffee war!

Ridge residents are abuzz about the coming Starbucks (and it’s not just the caffeine) — a development that is forcing people to take sides in a brewing war of “venti” proportions between corporate chains and mom-and-pop coffee shops. The newest link in the Seattle-based chain will be on Third Avenue between 84th and 85th streets, and is part of the company’s reported plan to open 75 more locations in Brooklyn over the coming years. There are only three chain pizzerias in Bay Ridge, a Domino’s, a Papa John’s, and a Singas, all located on the outskirts of the neighborhood. Mocha and More will keep the same menu as when it was Main Street Coffee, but has added new drinks like flavored teas. In addition to the new drinks, a gift shop and consignment shop will be included. Phelps says that she has not exactly decided on what will be in the gift shop, but would like unique and different kinds of gifts. She plans for the store to be more of a high-end shop and will be more selective in the items that she accepts. It is funny how they are tring to get people to shop in Mandan for the holiday, yet all the hours are inconvenient except of course the special Shop Hop days. More Cofee News

The company stated it plans active expansion in the capital and the country’s regions in the next several years. The company has not made any official announcements in this regard and told the Post that reports in Ukrainian media regarding its plans to open 50 cafes in Ukraine next year were just rumors. Topic: Coffee News – Coffee could be hindering university students' grades – LSU The Reveille

Friday, December 7th, 2007

With the semester ending in 10 days, University students can be found in every nook and cranny of campus poring over lecture notes and frantically writing out equations in preparation for final exams. Knowing they have long days and nights of cramming ahead of them, coffee is many students’ beverage of choice. Brittany Crow, manager of both PJ’s Coffee locations on campus, said students used PJ’s for their caffeine and a place to study. Chelsea Pitallo, undecided freshman, said she often visits PJ’s or the Middleton Library to study and have a coffee, usually a mocha Frappuccino. Vanessa Richard, registered dietitian at the Student Heath Center, said that while it may not aid in retentive abilities, caffeine will allow a person to stay awake for up to four hours longer than usual.
