I spent a few pleasant days in County Tipperary in June (09). Tipperary is divided into North Tipperary (where the local vehicle registration is TN) and Tipperary South (where the car is recording TS). It is in the province of Munster and has good road and rail links to Dublin. (Approximately less than 2 hours drive from Dublin.
The county is bordered in the Midlands and by the counties of Waterford, in south Kilkenny, Laois and Offaly, east, north from Galway and Cork, Limerick and Clare to the west.
My wife participated in a four-day course to Thurles Tipperary Institute in North Tipperary we needed to find shelter dogs allowed. There several hotels in Ireland that are "pet" friendly, but the answer to this on the Internet, the majority seems to be in the west Ireland. We stayed at one of these last June to Renvyle in Connemara. Ultimately I found Ashleypark House, near Nenagh through a hosting site listed B & B is pet friendly.
Although they have a very informative website full of information and great photos, I used the old way to contact them – by phone to adjust our reservation. They have a small apartment adjoining property and renovated cottage gardeners who can be hired for catering or a mixture of self catering and eat in the main house.
We drove to Dublin on Thursday afternoon, warm and sunny in using the new toll system on the M50 and via the N4, M4 and M6 and Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey Tullamore is famous for. We found the house after asking a couple of locals, though are clearly marked on the N52 road and the AA route planner directions were good.
Ashleypark House is situated in 76 acres of woodland, French gardens and a lake and two entrances, two with lodges it is a long journey of about 1 km. It is a farmhouse 18th century which was restored by its present owners. It is full of character and out to provide cottages There are four excellent dinners with wine.
The first night we were in a room overlooking a back yard covered with grass that is home to peacocks and roosters. As it is not dark until nearly eleven at the time of the year and becomes the light shortly after 3, these birds do not sleep much and need to leave just after 3.30 and they are noisy. Sean the owner exceptionally active 80 + resident home suggested moving to a room at the front of the house has fantastic views over the lake and much quieter. It was the part that President Mary McAleese has remained within a few years ago. What an honor for our Irish born dog to sleep in the same room as the president had stayed in!
The house was very good value costs about 100 € per person per day for a bed (with bathroom), breakfast Full Irish, a four-course dinner with coffee or tea and that included wine. The price of wines from 22 € to 30 € the bottle on average (and we found a very good red to 25 € the bottle).
Every day, I had to bring my wife in Thurles (40 + km) and back for full Irish breakfast and then take in some touring with my stepmother, who came with us and Joss the dog. The first day we decided explore the region – Tipperary Lakeside District Shannon Lough Derg. Lough Derg is the largest lake on the River Shannon. Although there is not bypass the lake, you can drive to the various villages around him. Taking a visit to the new construction "Cottage" Advertise Ballycommon more factory shop was a great day. The area was full of newly built houses, many large properties with electric doors illustrating the richness of Ireland in recent years.
On the second day we went shopping in Nenagh. Nenagh is a very Irish research prosperous city in the Midlands. He seemed to be a store that had closed its doors and the city has a center for Tracing your ancestors cinema, modern shopping complex in the city and many traditional businesses in the city. There are some stores that years ago would have been described as "drapery. These establishments are about 2 / 3 floors with ladies and men's clothes, furnishings, furniture, etc. A summer Gough O'Keefe and novelty shop and Naughton each shop was well stocked and busy.
After shopping we moved of Limerick, driving in the suburb is now similar to any large city in Ireland where the down town shopping malls are full retailers in the United Kingdom. The city is not large and unfortunately has a reputation in recent years for gang activity. This seems to be gang members of a gang attack family members of others. This should not give visitors to the city that has many beautiful streets and beautiful landscapes.
We crossed the Shannon again and moved to Co Clare, and stopped at Bunratty Castle. This old castle which has a popular village "Adjacent to it, is worth the visit. I was then twenty years earlier for this occasion does not go around the village. They are Medieval banquets at the castle. Bunratty now has a bypass, but it was well equipped and you certainly do not miss the turn the main N18. Bunratty and Limerick are within walking distance of Shannon Airport.
It is a very popular place for tourists with a great development of self catering holiday homes run by the "Dream Ireland" undertaking which have many of their properties jmlvillas.com site. We parked outside Durty Nelly is one of the most famous pubs in Ireland.
After coffee shop in the complex craft spacious we moved on minor roads following the signs for Sixmilebridge. This a small picturesque village has a pub by a stream that has miniature version of the pub side called the "Duck Inn". Following the recent expenditure of Parliament of the United Kingdom saga when an MP claiming for expenses on his floating duck house on the island, I could not resist take some pictures of this variable Duck pub.
We then signs Knappogue Castle. I remember there was one at visit with relatives in Ireland over thirty years for a medieval banquet. The more popular even at Bunratty was reserved for what we have to Knappogue, which is not so much on the tourist route. This Saturday in June was abandoned, the time at that time had changed to rain, but opinions have said they still hold the banquets and wedding receptions there.
The next goal is to drive via Limerick in Thurles and not to the road from Nenagh to be off the road. You needed a map with the villages you pass through the road was deliberately not marked in Thurles until you were 30 miles from him. Although it was raining it was a great drive through the quaint villages, most of which has a shop, a pub and church. Rather like the day before he had a lot of new houses built in recent years and property, old and new are in very good state. No doubt the owners would be working in Limerick.
Wherever you went to be in the remote countryside, a city, there were hundreds of pictures of posters of candidates for local elections in Ireland and the European parliamentary elections which took place in Ireland Friday. Visiting Ireland again a few weeks after the event, something was missing with all the lampposts and telegraph poles naked where these posters were. It was a bit like the Christmas decorations have come down to the twelfth night with just the odd poster rolling through the mesh moving.
Before joining the Institute Tipperary we drove near Thurles itself, even if it rained you have a very good idea of the city. This city is a thriving research full of shops, pubs and restaurants.
Sunday was the final day to visit and we were in Tipperary could not miss the opportunity of the visit itself Tipperary. The day was warm and sunny again to extinguish the familiar route to Nenagh Thurles leads us on a very bumpy road to a stadium transformed into a single track road with grass in the center, somewhat similar to the width of these properties as cottage Ashleypark House. The worrying factor is that there were not many places of passage and, fortunately, no other oncoming.
The car has been very low on gasoline and picturesque villages had no gas stations. We arrived at the outskirts of Tipperary uneventful and cooled tank of the car.
Tipperary is very similar to Thurles, Nenagh and other local towns. After looking around, we moved Thurles, once again, following the route through Cashel, which is one of the most spectacular tourist attractions in Ireland and one of the most visited. It is home to the famous Rock of Cashel.
Monday was the day to leave Ashleypark House a place that was so quiet. There is a rowing boat to guests to use on the lake and lots of walks and the premium is that they accept dogs.
There are so many people traveling Dogs in Ireland it seems very strange that there are no more institutions that are pets. Perhaps that the economy has been so good for so long that they have full occupancy, without need to encourage people with pets. Now that the levels of tourism will be lower and fewer visitors from Great Britain because of high costs of ferry routes to the Irish Sea (at Unlike going to France) and the weakness of sterling against the euro, the hotels will have to watch their market and the restrictions they impose.
Ashleypark House is listed with "La France Invisible" here, they like 30 types of accommodation in locations around Ireland. Besides Ashleypark house there was only one other house advertised and allow pets in this case, the words "Kennels and" Stables available. It is a pity that others are not pets, we will be looking for another area to visit next year.
It appears that prices in general should be reviewed to attract more custom. I discovered in a hotel in Malahide, near Dublin the other day a pint of beer cost Kilkenny € 4.90, which is higher than the same brand in the south of France. A pint of beer Real back in my local pub in England costs around £ 3.00 so they do need to consider the costs to attract industry major tourist attraction.
About Dublin, we drove back through and Roscrea N7 before negotiating the M50 toll to Again, paying the fee this time at the local bank instead of Spar online.
After visiting Ireland in the past 35 years, was really great to go to Tipperary for the first time and managed to cover a large part of the town, whether Tipperary North! It is very prosperous, to visit and you get a great welcome and prices seem to be much, much better than the value of Dublin.
